Twin Bridges & Strawberry

Located at the base of Lovers Leap cliff, this area could easily be mistaken for part of Yosemite Valley. Here you can watch people climb, peregrine falcons (and sometimes golden eagles) soar, or even base jumpers leap. Horsetail Falls cascades down from the Desolation Wilderness and enters the American River as one of the main tributaries, and turns the creek that is the American River into a real river. At roughly 6000 foot elevation, this area has cooler summers and more snow, being only 5 miles or so from Sierra at Tahoe Ski resort. There are a mix of “normal” and “Forest Service cabins”. With the attractions in this area, it is a fairly low turnover area in high demand. The Strawberry Station provides basic consumer needs as well as outdoor gear, coffee and a friendly atmosphere. And of course there is the Historic Strawberry Lodge which offers lodging, a full restaurant and bar, as well as special event facilities.
