Kyburz & Silverfork

Kyburz and Silverfork are two small sister towns located along the banks of the American River about 30 miles east of Placerville. Like most of these towns along highway 50, the towns developed to support travelers on the highway mostly during the gold and silver rush. As speed of transport has increased, most of these little towns have disappeared. However, these two towns have continued to prosper due to the draw of wilderness activities in the area. Just about anything you could want is here. With a lower elevation (about 4000 ft), the area has less snow than Tahoe, and a warmer summer. Enjoy the American River for fishing, swimming, or boating, hike in the Forest Service lands, or climb at world famous Sugarloaf climbing area. There are mountain bike trails, snow-mobiling, cross country skiing, and you are only about 15 miles from Sierra at Tahoe ski resort. This is also one of the least expensive areas around that you can buy a home. One of the best parts, coming from Sacramento area, you generally don’t have to go through chain control… quick easy access.
